Lessons Learned from 2013

2013 2014

2013 is quickly coming to a close.  It has been a year of ups and downs, adventures, new professional ventures but ultimately a year of memories.  I could list every one of these but I am just going to highlight a few of these memories.

In no particular order:

Time for Creativity

From one basic oatmeal cookie recipe, I have come up with 3 different flavours and concoctions. Just a few changes and it can be used to satisfy anyone’s cookie cravings without feeling guilty!

The three you see here are (from the top and going clockwise):
-maple pecan raisin
-local clover honey, bee pollen, and sesame
-coconut chocolate chip

The recipe will follow in another post soon but here’s the photo to get your taste buds going!

Brand New Me

Alicia Keys’ “Brand New Me” is a song I came across the other day and just spoke to me.  Music has the power to inspire and resonate things within us.  We have that song we listen to when we are angry, happy, sad, in love, and so on.  There’s that song that makes us cry or brings us back to a time and feeling that we have forgotten or want to relive (such as that one summer so many years ago).  But the evolution of each of us happens at different speeds and in different ways. As I have been on quite the spiritual and emotional journey over the past 6 months, there is a “Brand New Me”.

Just listen.

Be open….

It’s been quite a while since I have posted anything here.  No, I have not stopped cooking or baking. No, I have stopped searching for more inspiration or motivational videos.  On the contrary, I have been searching more than ever over the last 6 months.  The best way to describe it that I haven been more open to trying new things, taking appropriate risks, and rediscovering things by giving them a second or third chance.  In the process, I have learned so much more about myself and taken the cracked parts of myself and glued them back together into a new mosaic that is reflected in the people I choose to have in my life and the activities I participate in.

What inspired me to write this post this time was the most surprising thing to happen to me during a yoga class.

I can’t believe there’s no butter….

It’s blueberry season and I was blessed enough to have a some delivered to me on the weekend.  Not having the chance to eat them right away (surprising, I know!), I had the choice of freezing them or eating them or baking them.  I decided on baking because this way I can share it with friends and have a little something to nibble on for my long drive to Vernon the next day.

Something new…

This is going to be a short and quick post. I saw on Twitter a post about a raw “cookie” to try. The original post was from Joyous Health and it looked interesting. I had read about the benefits of medjool dates and raw foods so I thought I’d see if it was worth all the hype.

Update 2.1 or 3.0?

I don’t know what the number would be, I’m always confused by that.  My favorite ones are the version 2.0.1 or 3.2.1.  Can’t they just number them like sequels?
